How We Go To Market
Distribution – We conduct our business through a two-step distribution model. This means we resell the products we purchase from manufacturers to our customers which comprises of a dealer/retailer network, who then sell the products to the final end-users who are typically DIY customers, professional builders, and independent contractors. This two-step model allows Fargo Glass and Paint Company to service our dealer/retailer network through value-added services such as pre-hanging doors and custom painting and staining.
Contract – We do everything from take-offs, fabrication and installation of commercial glass and hollow metal hardware projects. We work directly with the end users who typically are general contractors, private sector, educational, city, state, and government institutions.
About Fargo Glass & Paint
Fargo Glass & Paint Company Founder, E.J. Schonberg was fond of calling his company “The Friendly House”, the son of Swedish immigrants, Schonberg founded the Fargo Plate Glass Company in 1917 with $10,000 of borrowed money and absolutely no experience in the glass business.
The brand-new company announced itself to Fargo in an advertisement placed in the Fargo Forum newspaper on February 5, 1917. The ad claimed, “We know we’ll never get any more than we earn or deserve, and we expect to hustle for all we get!”.
As the company grew and changed in the products and services it was able to provide, Schonberg wanted to try and reflect these changes in the name of the company. So, in 1919, the company changed its name to Fargo Glass Company and in 1922, the name was changed once again – this time to the company’s current name Fargo Glass and Paint Company.
With the notion that a company should be based on honesty, integrity, hard work, and treating people well, Schonberg’s “Friendly House” has continued to grow and change throughout the years by adding to the territory it covers, products it sells, and services that it can provide for its customers.
These attributes continue to be ingrained in our daily culture. We coach our employees on how they should treat customers and their co-workers.
We have a long-standing belief that the success of Fargo Glass and Paint Company is due to employees buying into the attributes the Company was founded on. It is also believed that the success of the Company should then be shared with employees who are key components in creating Company success. This Company belief of sharing with the employees came full circle in 2019 when Fargo Glass and Paint Company became 100% Employee Owned.
